DePauw was designed to maximize the available indoor and outdoor space on the site and to capitalize on the expansive views of the Portrero Canyon in the back yard as well as the coveted ocean views beyond.  The existing slope of the property allowed the lower volumes of the house to be sunk down from street level, meaning that the house can successfully provide expansive indoor volumes, whilst maintaining a modest street front that is respectful of its surrounding context.
